“West 40s” Is Here to Prove Gay Life Doesn’t End When You Hit Middle Age

"Sex, love, and back pain..."

After a successful Kickstarter campaign last year, the new web series, West 40s, is finally making its debut this summer. The series follows five gay men in the Hell's Kitchen gayborhood of Manhattan as they search for sex and love, while coming to terms with being gay men in their 40s.

The series' co-creators, Mark Sam Rosenthal and Brian Sloan call it a “coming-of-middle-age comedy”: One character is back in the dating pool after being dumped by his parter of nearly 20 years—for a younger man—but there are also plots about open relationships, online dating and more.

Last year, Sloan told DNA Info. “It’s often like, ’My life is over, I’m depressed.’ We wanted it to reflect our lives where we don’t feel that way.” “There’s a lot of humor and a lot of laughter around it,” he adds. “You have to laugh at it, in a way.”

The first episode is set to premiere later this month, and now a new preview focuses on the harsh reality of when a cute, young twink thinks T.J. (played by co-creator Rosenthal) is more AARP than H-O-T.

"In their 30s, they’d meet strangers on the Hell’s Kitchen sidewalk and have sex in less time than it took to climb the four flights up to their apartments," reads the description on the show's website. "But now past 40 they’re all wondering what they want for the long haul - and questioning whether they can still make it up those stairs!"

Watch the fun preview below, and keep your eyes peeled for when the first episode drops later this month.
