"Whatever This Is," The New Series From "The Outs" Creator Adam Goldman, Is A Go!

whatever this is

On the heels of  The Outs, his runaway web series about the lives and loves of a group of Brooklyn gays, Adam Goldman wanted to jump headlong into his next project, Whatever this is. (No, seriously, that's what it's called.) Goldman and his gang launched a  Kickstarter campaign with a goal of  $165,000. (Hey, quality entertainment ain't cheap).

Well, the campaign worked, garnering a whopping $171,446. We did it!," posted Goldman. "Our first season has been fully funded—you guys are amazing!"

So, what is Whatever this Iis, anyway?

Whatever this is. follows Sam (Hunter Canning) and Ari (Dylan Marron), two production assistants in New York, and Lisa (Madeline Wise), Sam's girlfriend.

Sam and Ari are scraping by working on low or unpaid video production gigs thrown their way by Oscar (Ross Hamman), an existentially grumpy middle-man at a small production company. Making rent is hard enough; they barely have time to sneak toward their personal goals and personal lives in their off-hours.

Lisa is a teacher and therefore unemployed for the summer. A chance encounter puts her on the road to a possible summer job, but she's not sure where it could lead - or if she's even qualified.

Whatever this is. asks a tough question: how long are you expected to do work that you hate, for pennies, until it becomes something that you love that pays the rent? Is it even possible?

Goldman told NewNowNext he was eager to move on to another story: “The Outs has such a specific focus—Jack and Mitchell’s relationship, and subsequently Mitchell and Oona’s—and when we got those stories where they needed to be, it felt like the right time to step into something on a larger scale.” Of this new endeavor, Goldman says “We’ll be able to cover more ground because this is a story with a bigger cast. Getting into those people’s lives is going to be a lot of fun.”
