Which Country Is Most Likely To Go Nude Sunbathing

It might not feel like it, but beach season is right around the corner. And Expedia's annual "Flip Flop Report reveals which countries prefer to go nude when hitting the sand and surf.

Oddly enough it's Germans who most prefer to go au natural at the beach—28% of them have left their bathing suit at home. (We would have guessed Brazilians or maybe Greeks.) Most German resorts have a section set aside for freikörperkultur (Free Body Culture),  the official term for wearing your birthday suit.

Apparently nudism is a thing in Germany.

The same "let-it-all-hang-out" attitude applies in the country’s many superb spa and sauna facilities, where those who insist on sneaking in with their swim suits on will often face public rebuke – and an order to “take your trunks off”.

Nude sunbathing is also popular in public parks, nowhere more so than in Munich’s magnificent Englischer Garten, a haven for nudists since the 1960s.

Germans even take their passion for “textile-free” life into the winter months, proudly presenting the Naked Sledding World Championship on a bi-annual basis in the picturesque resort of Braunlage in the Harz Mountains.

Austria tied with Germany—no surprise given their common culture. But on the other end of the scale are the British, only 12% of whom have gone nude sunbathing. (Well, when you're that fair-skinned you have to be careful.)

And only 2% of Japanese people polled say they've gone naked at the beach. Jeez, we wonder if they wear bathing suits in the shower?
