Reports began surfacing in early April that authorities in Chechnya were detaining, brutalizing and even murdering gay men.
The Chechen government has denied this campaign of terror is happening—or that there are even LGBT people in the region—and the Russian government has done little to address the crisis. World leaders like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have decried these atrocities. This month the State Department called reports of this anti-gay pogrom “troubling.”
But Donald Trump has yet to address the issue.
