Who Should Play Barbie to Trevor Donovan's Ken?

Even though there is probably a zero percent chance the upcoming live action Barbie movie will have any actual gay content, there will still be a fair bit of gay interest in the flick. First of all, the camp potential here is huge. I'm thinking midnight showings ten years from now with the audience acting out the parts. Secondly, many a gay boy spent some time with Ken and Barbie at Barbie's Dream House. Granted, it was often spent fantasizing about Ken hooking up with the hot DILF next door, and ignoring Barbie all together, but still.

And for those of us who didn't dig playing with dolls not named G.I Joe, we're interested in the movie because of the possibility Ken might be played by Trevor Donovan, who won legions of gay fans for his portrayal of Teddy Montgomery on 90210. While most of us would rather see Trev in Steven Soderbergh's stripper opus Magic Mike, we are nothing if not loyal to actors who embrace gay roles as enthusiastically as Trevor has. So we'll check out Barbie for that reason alone.

With that in mind, we thought it might be fun to play a little casting game and see if we could come up with some candidates worthy enough to play opposite Trevor. Frankly, Trevor is such perfect casting, it's hard to imagine finding anyone as well-suited to play Barbie, but we'll give it a shot.

Amber Heard

Pros: Definitely has the right look if perhaps a little too overtly sexual for such a wholesome toy. Is so perfect looking, she does come across as a little plastic.

Cons: The Barbie people might be a little reluctant to cast someone currently playing a Playboy Bunny. Also not sure she has the acting chops to elevate the role beyond the cartoon level.

Aisha Tyler

Pros: Stunningly beautiful woman who totally has the right look. Plus, she's smart and talented and hilarious.

Cons: Too smart and too hilarious and too foul mouthed. Have you seen her stand-up? Have you seen her as Lana Kane on Archer? The only way Tyler gets the role is if the producers have the balls to really go for something different. We're betting they don't.

Katy Perry

Pros: Is practically a plastic cartoon character already. Would write sound track for small extra fee.

Cons: Barbie is plastic, not wooden. Would write sound track for small extra fee.

Taylor Swift

Pros: Has sweet, innocent look associated with Barbie. Also has slightly blank, vapid look associated with Barbie.

Cons: See: Slightly blank, vapid.

Diana Agron

Pros: The Glee actress is beautiful, smart, and combines an All-American girl look with just enough sexy that her Barbie would please just about everyone.

Cons: None. Assuming Ryan Murphy doesn't own her for life, get her signed up!
