Oh, Happy Day! Whoopi Goldberg Confirms “Sister Act 3” Is in the Works

"We're figuring out how to get the gang together and come back."

Oh, happy day, Whoopi Goldberg is getting back in the habit—again!

During an interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden the EGOT winner announced that Sister Act 3, the long-awaited final part of the epic Sister Act trilogy is finally happening.

“For a long time they kept saying no one wanted to see it,” Goldberg told Corden when he asked why the threequel hadn't happened yet. “And then quite recently it turns out that may not be true, people might want to see it. So, we're working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back."

“It’s a really fun movie,” the actress said about the third Sister Act. "It’s fun and it feels good and you know, nobody’s mad. It’s just like listen, bad singing, great singing, OK singing, and then nuns. What’s better than that?”

Sister Act has had a busy second life on the stage since its sequel was released back in 1993. A musical version of the original movie hit the West End in 2009 and Broadway in 2011, and last year it was announced that the show was going to be revived in 2020 with Goldberg back in the role of lounge singer-turned-nun Deloris Van Cartier.

“Yeah, the original Deloris is back, a little older, a little seasoned but really still kind of out there,” Goldberg said in a video announcement when the revival was announced. Sadly, the production has now been delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The EGOT winner had previously spoken about getting back in the habit for Sister Act 3 on The View, where she revealed that she has been met with “resistance” to getting the movie off the ground, so her starring in this new stage production might prove that the franchise is not “dated.”
