The debate rages on about which winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race is the greatest queen of all time. So far, we’ve recounted the merits of Bebe Zahara Benet, Tyra Sanchez, Raja, Sharon Needles and All Stars winner Chad Michaels.
Now we have come to my personal fave, Jinkx Monsoon—and I don’t just say that because we’re both Jewish and fall asleep at the drop of a hat.
Jinkx is a Broadway baby who blew in from the Pacific Northwest and totally upended everyone’s expectations. (Raise your hand if you thought she would be sent home by the second episode.) She showed amazing creativity, talent and knowledge in every challenge, and she let shady comments roll off her like water off a ducks back.

Below, I spell out why it will always be Monsoon season—and why Jinkx is the greatest RuPaul’s Drag Race winner ever.
Tune in to an all new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race starting March 2 on Logo TV.
Jinkx overcame harsh criticism
And narcolepsy
And wig malfunctions
And still held her head high.
She can tell a whole story with her face
And crack jokes with the best of them
While Jinkx didn’t like to get shady, she was good at it.
She could also turn the sexy on.
Jinkx knew her camp history: Her Little Edie was genius—and perhaps the best Snatch Game routine ever.
But she also gave us Death Becomes Her realness.
Which reminds me: Jinkx’s crush on Ivy Winters was just. too. cute.
Her Day of the Dead look slayed us.
Her lipsync was inspired.
Her off-Broadway show, The Vaudevillians, was divine.
And brought out the stars!
In the end, though, I love Jinkx for the lesson she taught me.
