By now, singer-songwriter L.P. really ought to be a gay rock icon.
For one thing, her music is incredible. Her sound is epic and emotional, but she’s got this…intimacy? I think that’s the word I want. Or maybe immediacy.
The point is, I never feel like L.P.’s making magic in a studio somewhere, tucked behind seventeen layers of sound. Even her studio recordings sound like they were recorded in a canyon somewhere, while she was tossing back her head and wailing at the sky.
Does that make sense? That’s the visceral feeling I get from her music. For instance, check out her recent single “Into the Wild,” which comes from a new album of the same name:
And obviously, I’m not the only one who gets the outdoor vibe, since “Into the Wild” was also used in that Citi commercial about the rock climber.
So, again… L.P. should be more famous. Let’s make that happen, y’all! And just for fun, let’s enjoy her classic video “Good With You/Cling To Me,” an amazing power ballad mash-up that sounds like the best single never released by Melissa Etheridge.
