Go Behind the Scenes of the Emotional Final "Will & Grace" Table Read

"This ending was a little bit more honest to the characters."

This week we said goodbye—for a second time—to the fab foursome of NBC's Will & Grace. We're sure viewers probably shed a tear or two while watching the final episode, and they weren't the only ones.

A new behind-the-scenes video takes us inside the emotional table read for the Will & Grace series finale, which shows stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes, Megan Mullally, along with guest star Minnie Driver, reading the script and realizing this is the last time they will play their iconic characters.

"This ending was a little bit more honest to the characters," series co-creator Max Mutchnick told The Hollywood Reporter about the revival's final episode. "We were making stuff up the first time around. And this felt like the world had changed, we had changed, and the characters therefore were going to change."

"The first time around, we felt a little bit more beholden to the traditions of family dynamics and tableaus," Mutchnick added. "And the truth is, the best family tableau is the one that works best for you—and that’s what we’re going to give Will and Grace. Now, we’re a little bit more evolved and we realized: No, this is how they would actually do it."

Will & Grace, which ran on NBC for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006, returned in 2017 with all four original leads to become the network’s top-rated comedy. NBC announced last July that the third season of the revival, the sitcom’s 11th season overall, would be its last.
