"Will & Grace" Cast Goes Full "I Love Lucy" for Upcoming Special Episode

The sitcom crossover of a lifetime.

Will & Grace has some 'splainin' to do.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the NBC sitcom will take to a trip to 623 E. 68th Street—home of the Ricardos and Mertzes—by recreating classic moments from I Love Lucy.

NBC

The upcoming episode will consist of three dream sequences, with Grace, Jack, and Karen all taking turns playing Lucy in “re-imagined versions of iconic scenes from the original series." Debra Messing will play Lucy in the “Vitameatavegamin" commercial scene; Sean Hayes will take over Lucy duties for the chocolate factory "Job Switching" scene; and Megan Mullally will stomp grapes as Lucy from the "Lucy's Italian Movie" episode.

Eric McCormack will play Ricky Ricardo in all three scenes, with other cast members rotating in the roles of Fred and Ethel.

The I Love Lucy scenes will be scripted exactly as they were during the series' original run—and if that weren't enough, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's daughter, Lucie Arnaz, will make a cameo as the chocolate factory supervisor who yells, "Speed it up a little!"

"I know my parents would be over the moon to be honored in this way, and by such similar talents who bring the same kind of joy to audiences as they did in I Love Lucy," Arnaz said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to be invited to the party and will do my best to honor the memory of Elvia Allman’s iconic performance.”

This isn't the first time Will & Grace has received comparisons to I Love Lucy; the second season episode "Das Boob"—the one where Grace's water bra springs a leak—served major Lucy vibes.

“I felt like it was kind of a wink to Lucy and Desi,” Messing said about that scene. “It just was a perfect comic set piece.”

Who knows? Maybe 50 years from now, some future sitcom will be recreating scenes from classic Will & Grace episodes.

Will & Grace's Lucy episode will air next year during the show's current final season.
