Will Smith Opens Up About Son Jaden's Gender Fluidity
"As a parent, it's scary. It's really terrifying."
Last month we told you Jaden Smith was the new face of the latest Louis Vuitton womenswear campaign, and now his dad, Will, is sharing his opinion about his son's gender fluid style.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the topic of Jaden came up when the host asked if Will and Jada consciously encourage their kids to have such a strong freedom of expression.
"Yeah, I think it may have been a mistake," Smith joked. "We may have gone too far."
When asked how he would handle hearing jokes about his 17-year-old son, the actor said:
"There’s a really powerful internal quality as an artist that as parents we encourage. You gotta get out on the edge. You have to try things. You have to be comfortable doing things that people don't agree with, and you have to be comfortable doing things that you could fail. And Jaden is 100% fearless. He will do anything, you know? So as a parent, it’s scary. It’s really terrifying. But he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn’t concern himself with what people think."
