Willam is calling Phi Phi O’Hara out on her shenanigans once again, this time after Miss O’Hara posted her version of Justin Bieber’s new song “Boyfriend” on Youtube and tagged many of the castmembers from season four of RuPaul’s Drag Race, a way of driving more search traffic to the video. Clearly aware of the controversy this has caused, she also added the tag; “If you don’t like my TAGS kiss ass :)”
In an open letter on her Tumblr, Willam wrote; “You tagged your season 4 girls and that’s your prerogative but it exhibited poor judgement and little tact to tag my personal work, specifically Vagina Song, Trouble and Love You Like a Big Schlong, along with Detox & Vicky’s Chow Down at Chick-fil-A, to increase hits on your vibrato-laden karaoke vids.”
Willam took some time to speak with NewNowNext about the matter and pointed out that an even bigger problem is the copyright violations Phi Phi has committed in publishing the song. “I’m sure it’s against copyright for her to just grab another artists song, and republish it on the net. Even the backing track is licensed somewhere somehow,” Willam explained.
“All my tracks are original from scratch with musicians and fall under the same laws that Weird Al abides by,” Willam went on to say. “Bruno Mars’ manager has seen “Vagina Song” and laughed at a bar I work at. Wilson Phillips has publicly endorsed “Chick-fil-A“. Waiting on Selena Gomez to Stan for “Love You Like a Big Schlong” might take a little while longer. But the balls on [Phi Phi] to tag my original work so people can find her squawking ass shrilly doing Bieber … God, my poor subscribers’ ears.”
Willam closed by telling us; “Even if folks don’t agree with my opinion on her, fact is she’s hurting other artists’ paychecks by doing what THOUSANDS do daily. Not to get all Lars Ulrich on her.”
This is not Willam and Phi Phi’s first fight and, something tells us, this will not be their last. Whose side are you taking on this one?
