Camp Lightbulb Offering LGBT Youth A Unique Home For The Holidays

And helping kids "discover a bright picture of LGBTQ life."

While the holidays can be a hard time for those who are stuck with less-than-supportive relatives, a camp in L.A. is helping to provide LGBT youth with a unique family experience of their own.

Camp Lightbulb, which originated as a summer camp in Provincetown, Massachusetts in 2012, is holding its first-ever Winter Camp from December 26 through January 1 in Los Angeles.

LGBT teens between the ages of 14-18 will stay with camp counselors at Santa Monica's HI Hostel and will partake in tours of Hollywood, a Rollerskate Disco night and beach day full of activities in the sun and sand.

The Huffington Post is reporting that teens will be eligible to participate no matter their family's income, with 40% of the campers attending through the help of a scholarship.

Founding Director Puck Markham “wanted to create a special place that is a stepping stone in life for the younger members of my community,” he told The Huffington Post. “Now more than ever, LGBTQ youth need a happy and safe space to be celebrated and be themselves.”

Registration for the Winter Camp is currently open and you can click here for more info.
