Witness Claims Attack At Miami Burger King Wasn't A Gay-Bashing

"The story being told by Jordan is completely inaccurate."

Nearly three weeks ago, a man was allegedly attacked in a Miami Burger King after kissing his boyfriend in front of other customers. But now, a new witness has stepped forward with a different story.

Surveillance footage from the attack released last week showed one man, Jordan Schaefer, being pinned to the ground by an unnamed assailant, who violently beat him up while dozens of other customers looked on.

Later, Schaefer would claim that he was beaten because he was gay and that the attacks occurred as a result of a kiss he shared with his partner.

“It was just a simple kiss with my boyfriend. And then right after that kiss, I started walking over and that’s when I was approached by this gentleman," he said in an interview with CBS4 Miami.

"He then started to use derogatory terms such as ‘f**king faggots...It all happened so fast once I got slammed to the ground. It’s just kind of a blur."

He continued, "It’s not right that anyone should suffer a hate crime. And to be a victim based on the person that they are."

Now, however, a new witness has come forward to say that Schaefer's account is false.

Tim Baird, who claims to have been in the Burger King at the time of the assault, took to Facebook to share his perspective on the crime, alleging that Schaefer instigated the attacks.

On his wall, he wrote: “I’m posting about this story because it’s starting to spread like wildfire. Some friends and I witnessed this incident (yes, at the Whopper Bar in South Beach on a Sunday Night) and the story being told by Jordan is completely inaccurate. As we saw it, he is mainly responsible for the fight and the altercation had nothing to do with his sexual identity. I’ve already contacted Miami police to offer my perspective, if they want it.”

In a statement released this week, the Miami Police Department stated that they had recently "received new witness information."

"As with any case," they continued, "we will investigate all leads thoroughly. We encourage anyone with information to come forward and speak with detectives. We still need help identifying the males seen in the video.”

As of yet, police have been unable to locate the assailant.
