"The Wolf of Wall Street" Gay Orgy Censored In India, Middle East

The Wolf of Wall Street got major love at the Oscar nominations yesterday, but censors in India and several other countries are not fans of Scorcese's latest. They've ordered certain parts cut, including a gay orgy scene.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

In India, three scenes were cut: a gay orgy, co-star Jonah Hill’s public masturbation sequence and the opening scene of the film that features DiCaprio blowing cocaine into a woman’s derriere using a straw.

Also, the expression "all nuns are lesbians" was blacked out because of a guideline stating that all religions should be respected.

The film has been outright banned in Malaysia and Nepal, and is only screening at certain restricted theaters in Singapore.

In Lebanon, only the gay orgy is being trimmed.

As the film is still rolling out internationally, it could very well face more censorship around the globe. According to IMDB, Wolf is set to debut February 6 in Russia, which currently has a law against "gay propaganda."

"Some of the content in the film makes it difficult in certain territories where they have censorship and can even ban films," says Christian Mercuri, president of international at Red Granite Pictures, which financed the $100 million movie. "It certainly concerns us that anyone is cutting our film, but every territory is different."

Despite these restrictions, Wolf has taken home $40 million in the international market, in addition to its $60 million gross Stateside.

God bless America!
