Woman Behind "Fagbug" Gay Pride Car Assaulted In Post Office

The man reportedly charged at her and threatened to kill her because of her car.

A woman who toured the U.S. in a Volkswagen Beetle that she turned into a symbol of gay pride after it had been previously vandalized was reportedly attacked by a man in a post office in Syracuse, New York.

38-year-old Erin Davies said she traveled to all 50 states to discuss the vandalism and speak about hate, but hadn't been attacked herself until the incident on Saturday.

According to a police report, Davies was in line at the post office when a man identified as Casey White came in and went directly up to her and loudly spit on the floor.

When an employee asked if he had just spit on the ground, he reportedly replied, "No, I spit at this bitch."

White is then accused of putting his hand on Davies' forehead and pushing her before employees escorted him to the exit.

The report then says that White turned around and charged after her, causing Davies to jump over the post office counter to get away from him.

Davies reported that the man then said he would be "waiting outside and would beat me up outside," and threatened to kill her before eventually being restrained and escorted out.

Davies said White, who was found by police a block away from the post office and charged with second-degree harassment, shouted to her, "Who drives a Fagbug on Salina Street? I don't understand why you drive that car?"

Davies' Beetle had been spray-painted with the words "fag" and "u r gay" in 2007, and she decided to leave the paint there and tour the country to film conversations with people about the car and its message.

She eventually released a documentary called Fagbug in 2009, which was shown at dozens of film festivals.

"After 9 years of doing Fagbug, I took comfort in the fact that no one ever attacked me physically," Davies said. "I went to all 50 states and never had that happen."
