A  Portland woman has been found guilty for her part in an an attack on a gay couple talking their pink poodle for a walk.

David Beltier says he and Jeremy Mark were in the crosswalk when George Allen Mason pulled up next to them and started yelling anti-gay slurs and making fun of Beauty. Mason reportedly got out of his SUV and began punching him in the face. He then went back to his car, pulled out a foot-long metal wrench and hit Beltier in the back of the head with it.

Other drivers witnessed the attack and took down Mason's license plate number. He was charged with second-degree intimidation, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless driving and hate-crime charges.

This week, a jury found Mason's wife, Saraya Gardner, guilty of obstruction of justice. for lying to police about Mason's whereabouts and repeatedly changing her story about the weapon used to strike the victim.

Apparently Gardner and Mason were stunned by the guilty verdict, which will likely land Gardner jail time.

"We think the government didn't have the evidence necessary to prove Ms. Gardner's intent in this case," said defense attorney Thomas Coan. "There was evidence of homophobic slurs that we didn't think was relevant that could have tainted the jury or prejudiced the jury against Ms. Gardner."

The trial for Mason is expected to begin soon.
