Cher, Janelle Monáe, Katy Perry And More To Appear At The Women's March On Washington
This weekend's Women's March on Washington is set to be one of the largest demonstrations in American history with over 200,000 people expected to attend.
Donald Trump's team has had some trouble securing big name headliners to perform at the official events associated with the incoming President's Inauguration Weekend—a problem the Women's March isn't experiencing.
The rally announced its official performance lineup on Wednesday with a list that includes Janelle Monáe, Maxwell, and Angelique Kidjo who are set to headline.
“I am honored to join this critical movement to bring justice and equality to all,” said Monáe in a statement. “Music has always been a powerful tool for galvanizing unity and I believe that singing and standing together, our voices will be stronger than any force that tries to repress us.”
Samantha Ronson, Emily Wells, DJ Rekha, MC Lyte, St. Beauty, Beverly Bond, Alia Sharief, DJ Rimarkable, Amber Coffman, the Indigo Girls, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Climbing PoeTree are also set to perform according to Entertainment Weekly.
There will be an Artist's Table at the march. Actress and activist America Ferrara will participate including additional performances from Questlove, Grimes, Matt and Kim, KT Tunstall, Neko Case, Rakim, TV on the Radio, and Lila Downs.
A number of celebrities are scheduled to march in the protest such as Cher, Katy Perry, Julianne Moore and Amy Schumer.
As if that wasn't enough there are even more music acts and performers scheduled for the Women's March after-party at D.C.'s 9:30 Club. Proceeds from the event will benefit Planned Parenthood
The National and Sleater-Kinney will headline the concert along with Tig Notaro and Janeane Garofalo who will provide comedy bits throughout the evening. "Also set to appear are Ted Leo, Cameron Esposito, Rhea Butcher, 2 Dope Queens’ Phoebe Robinson, and Ronna & Beverly, as well as superstar senators Al Franken and Cory Booker," reports Consequence of Sound.
