"X-Men" Actor Shawn Ashmore Celebrates Iceman Coming Out, Predicts A Ton Of New Erotic Fanfic

The X-Men's Iceman, a.ka. Bobby Drake, was outed in the latest issue of All-New X-Men yesterday, when his psychic teammate, Jean Grey, basically told him he was gay.

The Internet is abuzz with the moral implications of nonconsensual mind-reading—and retconning a character that's ostensibly been straight for 40 years—but the folks involved with the X-Men movies are applauding the movie.

Shawn Ashmore, who played Drake most recently in X-Men: Days of Future Past, tweeted his kudos on Tuesday.

Ashmore, 35, also hinted that the storyline could affect his character in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, due out in 2016.

He also provided a great reply to a fan's concern that Bobby being gay would "complicate" things.

And acknowledged the news will probably mean more Iceman-Pyro shipping.

We wouldn't mind seeing Shawn enact that fanfic on the big screen. Get to it, Bryan Singer!

Meanwhile X-director Bryan Singer told EW he's a fan of the revelation.

"I’m enjoying the irony of it all and how it relates to my films, particularly with [Rogue], a girl he wants to be intimate with but can’t," Singer said. "I’m excited and quite amused that that idea has been able to play out."
