New Years & Years Single “Sanctify” Is About Gay Sex With Straight Guys

"You don't have to be straight with me," sings out frontman Olly Alexander.

Olly Alexander will always give it to you straight.

Years & Years has released a new single, "Sanctify," and the London-based synth-pop trio's unabashedly out frontman has revealed that it's about hooking up with straight men.

"You don't have to be straight with me," Alexander sings on the track. "I see what's underneath your mask."

“I wanted to write a song that was kind of inspired from some experiences I’ve had with guys who identify as straight but I’ve had something a bit more than just a friendship with them," he tells Beats1.

The accompanying music video depicts Alexander as a human slave used for the dancing entertainment of a futuristic android society.

"I've been having a lot of encounters with straight guys that were not being straight with me and were struggling, to put it lightly, with their sexuality," Alexander tells GQ. "It’s a very common experience, I think, for gay men to fall for a straight guy."

"I've almost found myself... playing this saint and sinner role, or like this angel and devil, because I'm leading them down the path of 'sinful gayness,'" the 27-year-old singer continues, "but also I'm helping them satisfy the sexual desire that they feel they can't get anywhere else."

"Sanctify" will be on Years & Years' upcoming sophomore album, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, Communion. They recently premiered the track "DNA," which is also expected to be on the new album.
