New England-based confectionery company NECCO has been making chalk-like candy of all shapes and sizes since 1847, but perhaps the most beloved crunchy corn syrup-based concoction is Sweehearts.

In the six weeks preceding everyone's favorite February holiday, NECCO sells an astonishing four million pounds of their classic heart-shaped confection printed with sweet phrases like "Be Mine."

With room for a maximum of five letters on the top line and four on the bottom, it takes some creativity to get it right. Here's a list of retired Sweetheart sayings for your amusement:
