YouTuber Steven Boyle Flips Script on Coming Out Video

While older generations of gays righteously harangue the millennial insistence on self-documentation (read: narcissism), YouTube has provided an interesting and perhaps unexpected venue for teens to proudly and openly discuss their sexualities. The Coming Out YouTube video is practically its own genre of media.

So YouTuber Steven Boyle decided to flip the script. Rather than staring blankly at a camera and retelling his story or sneakily hiding a smartphone to document dropping the bombshell on parents, Boyle has intercut the stories of his family and friends to create a more fuller narrative. The results are funny, charming, and heartwarming, if you're into that sort of thing.

Boyle doesn't take the whole thing too seriously, but in a moment of earnestness explains:

After [coming out], I wasn’t scared anymore ... The influence of being an out gay man, or woman, or trans person, is giving hope to other people. I think coming out is really important. That being said, there are variables. You have to do it on your own time and follow your gut.
