"We were very, very close, and losing him was very difficult, obviously," said the out actor. "I feel so grateful that I knew him, and that he was such an instrumental figure in my life. He lived a beautiful life, and a full life."

Conan also spoke about his personal reverence for Nimoy, recounting when Leonard was cast in an episode of The Simpsons that O'Brien wrote.

He came into the recording studio and I freaked out, because he was such an indelible part of my childhood.

As for why the character of Spock has endured as a cultural icon for decades, Quinto summed it up perfectly.

[Nimoy] imbued that character with so many of his finest qualities. We should all be so lucky to live as a fulfilled a life as he did.
