The body of trans woman Zakaria Fry was identified yesterday in New Mexico, five weeks after she and her roommate disappeared. She is the sixth known transgender person murdered in 2018.

Fry, 28, and her roommate, 70-year-old Eugene "Carrell" Ray, were reported missing January 18, after Ray's family found his home "in disarray, along with some suspicious items," according to KOB Channel 4.

A friend of Fry reportedly received a text from her the same day, the last time she was heard from.

On February 19, cattle ranchers found two bodies in Albuquerque—one dumped in a trash can, another left on the side of the road nearby. Police have confirmed that the bodies belonged to Fry and Ray, and are still investigating their deaths.

Fry's loved ones remember her fondly on Facebook

"You took care of me and loved me like family," wrote one friend. "I’ll forever love you. I’m sorry."

Fry is the sixth known transgender person murdered since January, although it is unclear when exactly she was killed. Last weekend, Phylicia Mitchell was fatally shot outside her Cleveland home.

Last year was the deadliest year on record for transgender Americans, with at least 27 known homicide victims. At the current rate, 2018 will outpace that before October.
