Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe Would Rather Refuse Billions In Aid Than Accept Gay Rights

"It is rotten aid, filthy aid and we won’t have anything to do with it."

Robert Mugabe has previously requested $1.6 billion in aid to help feed the millions of people in his country currently starving and living in poverty, but he edited his request to say he doesn't want the money if it means he has to accept gay rights.

The Zimbabwe president celebrated his 92nd birthday on Saturday — an event which cost nearly $1 million dollars — and he used the televised public event to speak out against LGBT equality once again.

"If aid, as I understand, is to be given on the basis that we accept the principle of gay marriages, then let that aid stay where it is," he said. "We don’t want it. It is rotten aid, filthy aid and we won’t have anything to do with it."

This is nothing new for the president, who has been in power since 1980. In the past he threatened to have gay people's heads chopped off and has described them as being "worse than dogs."
