Candace Towns Becomes 25th Transgender Person Murdered In America This Year
The 30-year-old was found shot to death in Georgia.
Candace Towns became the 25th transgender American murdered in the U.S. this year after being found slain at the top of a driveway on Tuesday in Macon, Georgia.
The 30-year-old had been reported missing since Saturday and was found shot to death by police three days later.
Authorities confirmed that her case is being investigated as a homicide, but have not released any further details on the murder.
According to a count by HRC, this marks the 25th reported murder of a trans person in the U.S. in 2017, making it the deadliest year on record for transgender Americans. So far, almost every victim, including Towns, has been a woman of color.
