Anti-Gay Jehovah's Witness Video Teaches Kids That LGBT People "Can Change"

"That's why we share his message!"

An unsettling animated short created by Jehovah's Witnesses aims to indoctrinate kids with homophobic values, and teaches them that LGBT people "can change" and must be enlightened.

The two-minute video is part of a series on the organization's website called "Become Jehovah's Friend," which targets children and explains the religion's values by applying them in real-life situations.

In "Lesson 22: One Man, One Woman," a young girl brings a family portrait she drew at school home to her mother. As the two are looking it over, the girl mentions that her friend Cassie "drew two mommies" in her picture because she has two mothers.

The girl goes on to explain that Cassie's mothers are married, and that their teacher told them "all that matters is that people love each other and that they're happy."

Sighing with disappointment, the mother shares her homophobic (and completely inaccurate) opinion.

"Well, people have their own ideas about what is right and wrong," she says. "But what matters is what Jehovah feels."

The mother then claims "Jehovah wants us to be happiest," so he "invented marriage" between one man and one woman. She quotes two Bible verses as proof and says "Jehovah's standards haven't changed."

On getting into heaven, she says: "It’s kind of like going on an airplane. What would happen if someone wanted to bring something on the plane that wasn’t allowed? It’s the same with Jehovah. He wants us to be his friend, and live in paradise forever, but we have to follow his standards to get there."

The mother tells her daughter that Jehovah commands her to "leave behind" the things he does not allow in order to get in to heaven, and that means her friend Cassie's parents, who "can change" with enough convincing.

"That's why we share his message!" she exclaims, encouraging her daughter to "share" her thoughts with Cassie at school tomorrow.

While Jehovah's Witnesses don't condemn homosexuality outright, much like the Mormon church, it mandates that gays and lesbians must remain celibate and actively suppress their same-sex desires.

Under the religion's doctrine, LGBT Jehovah's Witnesses risk "disfellowship" or miscommunication, and can be shunned completely from their families and communities if they come out.
