Former Olympic Diver Marries His Boyfriend 20 Years After Atlanta Games

Congrats, boys!

Former Olympic diver Guy Sandin has married his partner Michael Maruo, almost 20 years to the date after Sandin competed on Puerto Rico's diving team at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

The couple were married in Los Angeles this month and posted an announcement on Facebook:

Sandin, who competed at the Games under the name Ramon Sandin, came out as gay in 2000 and later retired from diving to focus on a career in acting under the name Guy Sandin.

Concerns for the safety of LGBT athletes at this year's Games in Rio have ramped up in recent months after media reports, including one published in the New York Times, unveiled an "epidemic of anti-gay violence" in Brazil.

According to recent projections, a record 38 LGBT athletes will compete in the 2016 Olympics when the games kick off next Friday.
