Gay Sex—And Queer As Folk's Randy Harrison—Comes To USA's "Mr. Robot" (SPOILERS)
USA's hacker drama Mr. Robot is one of the summer's most compelling shows. The series follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a computer security consultant who has problems relating to people—preferring, instead, to figure them out by hacking their computers and social media accounts. It's got the right mix of tropes and plot twists, and a fresh perspective that makes every episode feel like a discovery.
And this week, some gay sex made it an even more intriguing puzzle.
In the show's debut episode, Elliot's boss Gideon (Michel Gill) tells him he's gay, but he's not entirely out.
Last night, a dinner party at Gideon's home gave us the chance to meet his husband, Perry, played by Queer as Folk vet Randy Harrison. Perry seems to find his husband's employees strange,—which actually makes him one of the most human characters on this drama.
One of the great things about Mr. Robot is how you have to decipher how much of the show is real, and how much is in Elliot's head. Why do signs for E Corp say "Evil Corp"? Is the mysterious man who recruited Elliot just a figment of his imagination?
We spend some time following E Corp vice-president Tyrell (Martin Walström), including getting a glimpse of his morning workout routine. Tyrell is trying to score a promotion and decides the best way to get it is to seduce an assistant Anwar (Mitchell Winter).
That night, thanks to a selfie posted online, Tyrell finds Anwar at a nightclub and tells him he sought him out for sex.
Tyrell suggests that Anwar hit the shower, giving him just enough time to install spyware on his phone.
It's a busy night for Tyrell. But when he gets home, his pregnant wife is waiting for him and demanding a bit of attention herself.
Is Tyrell bisexual? Is he a heteroflexible opportunist? Who got some 50 Shades of American Psycho in my Fight Club?
I might have some theories after watching the episode a few more times.
