Will Lady Gaga Play Donatella Versace In "American Crime Story"?

Ryan Murphy recently discussed casting rumors and his inspiration for the upcoming season of his hit show.

From the moment it was announced that the third season of American Crime Story would focus on the 1997 murder of Gianni Versace, fans speculated that Lady Gaga would be the perfect person to play the role of the victim's sister, Donatella, and now Ryan Murphy is hinting that they might be right.

During a panel at Entertainment Weekly's PopFest over the weekend, Murphy discussed the upcoming two seasons of his hit anthology series.

When the moderator suggested that Gaga would be perfect in the Donatella role, Murphy simply gave a telling grin and slyly replied, "Ya think?"

Gaga is already a member of Murphy's inner-circle of players, of course, appearing on the current installment of American Horror Story.

Plus, the Joanne singer is already friends with Donatella Versace anyway, having even penned a song about the fashion designer on her Artpop album, making her an obvious choice for the role.

Murphy explained his inspiration for the Versace season came from the fact that serial killer Andrew Cunanan remained undetected during his killing spree until eventually taking his own life.

“The tragedy of the Versace murder was that it should not have happened. He should have been caught by then," Murphy explained. "But he wasn’t caught because he was targeting gay people, and people didn’t care. That’s why Gianni Versace was killed, for the most part."
