Miley Cyrus Is Still "Very Sexually Attracted to Women," Thank You

The singer-songwriter reminds us that marrying Liam Hemsworth doesn't negate or erase her queerness.

Miley Cyrus is still here and still queer, thank you very much.

In a recent interview with Elle magazine, the singer-songwriter and former Disney Channel star took a moment to remind us all that her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth, a cisgender man, is a part of her life, not a defining characteristic. The 26-year-old Hannah Montana alum tied the knot with Hemsworth last December at her farmhouse in Tennessee—but her marriage to a cis man as a cis woman who identifies as pansexual doesn't mean she's no longer queer.

"I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women," the "Mother's Daughter" singer told the magazine. "People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still fucking good, and I know that. I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most."

"I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role," she added. "I don’t even like that word."

Cyrus, whose seventh studio album She Is Miley Cyrus is expected to drop later this year, went on to discuss owning her power as a woman in an industry that's still largely dominated by male artists and execs. She recalls talking to Joan Jett about the rockstar's hit "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," which almost didn't happen because the decision-makers at the top of the recording industry didn't think a female rocker could succeed.

"No one should have ever told me that story," she added, "because now that’s my clapback for everything."

As for what's next up for Cyrus? Sometimes, it takes a big, wildly out-of-your-control event to put things in perspective—and for this 26-year-old, last year's Woolsey wildfire in California was that catalyst. (The fire actually claimed her and Hemsworth's Malibu home in November 2018.)

"The fires forced me out of my comfort zone, to find a new place to call home, to say, 'Listen, I have collected all this shit, all these years, but that doesn’t make me who I am,'" she told the magazine. "'That doesn’t amount to me.'"

Wise words from Cyrus, who came in like a wrecking ball in a drag king disguise on the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 11 premiere.
