Nicole Kidman Says Americans Need To Support Donald Trump
Nicole Kidman is calling for marriage equality in her native Australia.
"I believe in it," the Lion star told UK television host Victoria Derbyshire this week. "I believe in allowing people who love each other to share their lives together and honor it."
While more than two-thirds of Australians support same-sex marriage, Malcolm Turnbull's Liberal government has stalled on the issue. (A national referendum of marriage was was voted down in parliament in November by opponents who worried it would stir up hatred toward the LGBT community.)
Kidman says she's in favor of any time "people love each other and want that to be acknowledged legally—because that’s protection, as well as saying you are committed. And commitment is a wonderful thing."
Keith Urban's better half actually has dual citizenship in both Australia and the U.S., and while we applaud her stance on marriage, her comments about the President-elect were somewhat more surprising.
"[Trump is] now elected and we, as a country, need to support whoever is the president," she told Derbyshire. "That is what the country is based on. And however that happened, it happened, and let’s go."
