6 Hollywood Monsters That Totally Set Off Our Gaydar

Victor Frankenstein, the new film starring James McAvoy in the titular role and Daniel Radcliffe as his codependent assistant, Igor, is the latest entry in the Frankenstein franchise.

At Comic-Con last weekend, the cast teased that the movie is a "love story" between the demented scientist and his hapless apprentice, even saying that the two "go at it with each other, like, every day."

While the story of Frankenstein is in a league of its own, it sure as hell isn't the first horror story with gay overtones.

Below, we've assembled a list of 6 monsters of the silver screen that made our gaydar go off, even if just vaguely.

6. Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), The Mummy & The Mummy Returns

With his kaftans, statement jewelry and seriously buff bod, the antagonist of The Mummy movies looked like a A-gay on vacation in Palm Springs.

That is, after Imhotep regenerated his flesh, of course.

5. Count Dracula (Gary Oldman), Bram Stoker's Dracula

Francis Ford Coppola's spin on Bram Stoker's immortal bloodsucker was more Liberace than Dark Prince. But the tension between Oldman and Keanu Reeves read very "Daddy/Pup."

4. The Lost Boys (Kiefer Sutherland, et al.), The Lost Boys

There's no denying that out filmmaker Joel Schumacher wanted his undead biker teens to look as sexually ambiguous as possible.

Half the fun of Lost Boys was that creeping feeling that when Kiefer and Jason Patric weren't trying to kill each other, they were trying to get it on.

3. David Kessler  (David Naughton), An American Werewolf in London

Even if David–the hero and villain of John Landis' beloved horror comedywas a straight college bro, we still didn't mind all his nakedness post-transformation.

There's a lot.

Call us crazy, but there was also something  sexy about the infamous transformation scene. Don't judge.

2. Sebastian Cane (Kevin Bacon), Hollow Man

Kevin Bacon had no qualms letting his flaccid unit flop around (in infrared), in Paul Verhoven's version on The Invisible Man. The director is known for gratuitous nudity–hell, he did Showgirls!

Don't worry, we got at least one good butt shot.

1. Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), Psycho

While not supernatural per se, Hitchcock's mother-fixated, cross-dressing loner pretty was definitely a monster. And he takes the gay cake when it comes to gay horror icons.

Portrayed by the late gay Anthony Perkins, Norman suffered under his tyrannical mother, and was pushed him to become a cold, knife-wielding killer with a split personality.

If Grindr had been around when Norman was on the scene, maybe he wouldn't have gone so psycho.
