Hit Gay Play With Male Nudity Now Offering “Pay What You Wish” Tickets

“Afterglow” will throw in the bath towel off-Broadway after a 14-month run.

When gay-themed off-Broadway drama Afterglow closes August 12, it will have have played 467 performances and titillated almost 25,000 audience members.

Afterglow owes its success to the wonderful community that has supported us throughout our incredible 14-month run," says writer and director S. Asher Gelman in a statement. "In honor of that support, which allowed us to extend well past our initial eight weeks, we wanted to make the play as accessible as possible."

There are now 10 “Pay What You Wish” tickets offered to each performance through August 5, cash only and based on availability at the box office. Tickets are normally $59.50–$109.50.

"As we enter our final weeks in New York City, we want to ensure that everyone who wants to experience the show can have that opportunity.”

Gelman explores gay polyamory in his sensual three-person play about a married couple in an open relationship who begin sleeping with a massage therapist. Things get messy and very naked, so it’s a good thing there’s a working shower onstage.

“When a new intimate connection begins to form, all three men must come to terms with their individual definitions of love, loyalty, and trust as futures are questioned, relationships are shaken, and commitments are challenged,” reads an official synopsis of the play.

NewNowNext called the show “stimulating” and its three stars “ballsy.”

The current cast of Afterglow includes Joe Chisholm, Brandon Haagenson, and David Merten.

Because of the show's target gay demographic, producers were forced to temporarily rearrange the performance schedule earlier this year to avoid competing with new episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Afterglow runs through August 12 at the Loft at the Davenport Theatre in New York.
