Cher Raises $2 Million for Joe Biden

"Do you believe in life after Trump?"

The Biden campaign doesn't need to worry about when the money's gone as long as Cher's around.

The iconic singer-actress headlined a virtual LGBTQ fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden this Monday, August 31, and her appearance helped organizers rake in $2 million for the campaign. Tickets started at $500. Some 500 people reportedly joined the Zoom call.

According to The Washington Blade, Cher told a story about visiting Biden's office back in 2006: “He thinks he invited me, but really I invited myself. I saw a speech Joe had given and it was love at first speech.”

“So I went to his office to grill him. I asked him really pointed questions and unlike most politicians, Joe actually listened to me and cared [about] what I had to say," she recalled. "He was honest and kind and smart.”

High-profile out politicians like Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), and former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg also made appearances at Monday night's event. Biden himself spoke, too, shouting-out gay Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.), who was in attendance, and committing once again to signing the Equality Act within his first 100 days in office.

Anyone who follows Cher on social media knows she is never silent about her political beliefs. She campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and she most recently tried to volunteer at her local post offices.

The beloved diva originally endorsed Biden back in February.

“Joe is smart enough, he’s kind enough, he’s strong enough," she said during Monday's fundraiser, referencing one of her classic Believe tracks. "I also know that the person, woman, man, camera, TV, in the White House is an idiot. I mean it. No, the guy is really an idiot.”

As she told the fundraiser attendees, “So ask yourself, do you believe in life after Trump?”
