Alabama education official warns of 'Homosexualist' common core takeover

"As I said when I first campaigned and I’ve said it every time since, we need to get back to the basics: Reading, writing and arithmetic from first grade on. We need to be teaching the ‘c’ part which is Christian values, not Muslim values, not transgender values. We need to be teaching the old Biblical values."

ABC buys lesbian-straight relationship comedy from Mindy Project’s Ed Weeks:

"Co-written by Weeks and fellow Brit Hannah Mackay (Peep Show), Wing Person is the story of the co-dependent relationship between a lesbian lothario and her cautious, straight male best friend."

What life would have been like without ACT UP.

"Had I not joined ACT UP in 1987, and continued to this day to be a card-carrying ACT UP member, I would be dead. When I ask myself, “What would my life be like without ACT UP?” — the answer is uneasy."

Colton Haynes takes in a few shows. Isn't it about time Colton appears on Broadway. Maybe a revival of Take Me Out?.

Or Oh Calcutta.

And here's The Weekly ShoutOUT™. Each week we're going to focus on one out athlete/performer and feature a daily pic and career timeline. We'll be showcasing the big names, but also the lesser-known gay and bisexual celebs who deserve more recognition. This week we give a ShoutOUT™ to ... Seth Rudetsky

The list of accomplishments of singer, actor, writer, radio host, and musician Seth Rudetsky is too long to include here, but here are just a few highlights:

"Rudetsky was nominated for the Emmy Award three times for his work as a comedy writer for The Rosie O'Donnell Show. He was a writer for the Grammy Award shows of 1999 and 2000. Rudetsky created the opening numbers for the 1998 and 2000 Tony Awards. Rudetsky also wrote the opening number for the last seven Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Easter Bonnet Competitions, and has been responsible for many of their Gypsy Of The Year shows. On Thursday evenings, he hosts "Seth's Broadway Chatterbox", a one-hour talk show, at a New York City club, "Don't Tell Mama". He wrote and performed a one-man show called "Rhapsody in Seth". He often tours with variations on his one-man show. He appeared in the Series Finale of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.

He also posts a fabulous series to his Youtube page titled "Deconstruction," in which he deconstructs the singing voices of Broadway stars and goes in-depth with Broadway shows. We'll be taking a look at some of those deconstructions this week along with his other accomplishments.

Here is the deconstruction of Carrie

Thanks to Greggarious for the Shoutout suggestion!

Three years ago I presented my personal favorite Briefs list, The 100 Greatest Lost Hits of The 80's, and because if there's one thing Hollywood has taught us, it's that sequels and reboots and remakes are ALWAYS better then the original, we're going to the well again with The 100 Greatest Lost Hits of The 80's Part 2: The Even More Forgotten

We'll be spotlighting 100 more of the greatest minor hits of the decade, the songs you don’t hear on any 80’s nostalgia show. Songs that missed the top ten, or top twenty … or top forty. Hopefully these forgotten gems may ring a long dormant bell, or for younger readers, provide a pop music history lesson.

At #71 is "Sweet Sweet Baby" by Lone Justice

The first of two songs from Lone Justice on the list, "Sweet Sweet Baby" was the second single from their stellar debut album (the first "Ways To Be Wicked" was featured on the first Lost Hits countdown), and the second single to stiff on the charts, peaking at #73 in August 1985. That Maria McKee didn't become a huge star is one of the pop mysteries of the 80's. She did have a huge #1 hit in the UK with "Show Me Heaven" in 1990 (which didn't chart in the U.S), and she wrote another #1 hit in the UK for another artist (which we'll be seeing later on this countdown).

So what happened to Lone Justice? Let Maria explain.
