Donald Trump Explains Same-Sex Marriage Opposition To A Child: "It's The Way It Is"

Let's just hope that child has someone else nearby to give a better answer.

Donald Trump continues to lead the GOP in polls ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

The billionaire real estate mogul has claimed that, as president, he would respect the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of same-sex marriage by blocking attempts to reverse it, and would most likely support LGBT nondiscrimination protections in the workplace.

But The Donald's personal views on same-sex marriage have remained steadfast — in an interview with CNN early in his campaign, Trump revealed he was "for traditional marriage."

Asked by Bloomberg in a recent interview how he would explain his opposition to same-sex marriage to a son, daughter, or grandchild, Trump responded:

Well it’s the way it is. I wouldn’t speak to them at all about it other than they are who they are and I want them to be happy and will love them and cherish them.

Bloomberg's Mark Halperin harkened on Ohio Gov. John Kasich's response to a similar question at the first GOP debate earlier this month, during which Kasich proudly proclaimed that he'd attended a gay wedding in the past.

Said Trump: "I’ve gone to gay weddings. I’ve been at gay weddings. I have been against [gay marriage] from the standpoint of Bible, from the standpoint of my teachings as growing up and going to sunday school and going to church and I’ve been opposed to it and we’ll just see how it all comes out. If I was ever in that position, I'd just have to explain it."

Not the greatest answer, but much better than anything we've heard from virulently anti-gay GOP presidential hopefuls like Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, and Ben Carson, all of whom signed a pledge this week to support a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.
