GaymerX, the LGBT video-game convention which had its first gathering in August, has already birthed its own game, Read Only Memories, and an attendant Kickstarter campaign to get this "cyberpunk adventure" off the ground.

Being developed for PC, Mac, Ouya, iOS and Android, Read Only Memories puts the player in a somewhat dystopian San Francisco, circ 2064. From the Kickstarter page:

You're a young journalist trying to hack it on your own in Neo-San Francisco. It’s a tough city, but you’re a tough nut. One day you receive a package containing a beta version of the latest ROM, an intelligent device that has replaced all personal mobile technology. With the ROM lay a mysterious note from a close friend, saying that he had to leave the country immediately. Weird...

As you progress through the story, you'll discover and solve dark mysteries surrounding your ROM and Parallax, and you’ll encounter additional ROMs that can be collected to install new personalities; each personality unlocks new dialog and action options.

And remember, you will meet many different kinds of people during your journey through the feral San Francisco that has come to exist in 2064. It is up to you to decide who to trust, who to work with and who to challenge in this harrowing journey through Neo-SF.

A retro-Blade Runner romp inspired largely by 90's adventure game Snatcher, ROM will include puzzle-solving and dialogue, with imagery from top industry talent and a unique chiptune soundtrack.

And it should have something for gamers of all orientations: "While this game has queer characters and queer content it is not a 'gay' game," says GaymerX co-creator Matt Conn. "It's just a game."

So far, Conn and his team have garnered about $20,000 of their $62,064 goal, with a deadline of December 13. Ouya has offered to double every dollar pledge up to $62, 064 and, with enough funding, the game will make its way to major portable devices and consoles like iPhone, PS4, PsVita, WiiU and Xbox One.
