George Michael’s Lover Claims Singer’s Death Was a Suicide

"It took five attempts," says Fadi Fawaz.

Fadi Fawaz, George Michael's former boyfriend, says the star took his own life in 2016 following four previous suicide attempts, The Sun reports.

Fawaz, 45, who had a rocky five-year relationship with the pop icon, allegedly made these claims in emails read by the U.K. news outlet.

Fawaz also says Michael, 53, died on Christmas Eve, his late mother’s birthday, and not Christmas Day as previously reported. His body then remained undiscovered for 24 hours.

“I’m sick and tired of people asking me what happened on Christmas Day," writes Fawaz, who reportedly slept in his car on Christmas Eve. “Well let me tell you, George died on his mother’s birthday, so that might answer a few questions."

"Not to mention it took five attempts to manage to end his life," he continues. "I think it’s important for the story."

Fawaz tweeted last year that Michael killed himself but then claimed his Twitter account had been hacked.

Michael had been open about his depression and admitted he contemplated suicide while grieving his mother, who died of cancer in 1997, as well as his partner, Anselmo Feleppa, who died of AIDS-related illness in 1993. Michael's uncle and grandfather both reportedly took their own lives.

According to the coroner's report, Michael died from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.

Bouquets, candles, flags, and handwritten messages are still regularly left by fans outside Michael's English residences in Goring-on-Thames, where Michael died, and Highgate.

Fawaz, who still lives in the home he shared with Michael, is currently fighting for a share of the star’s £105million estate. A spokeswoman for Michael's estate says she has “no trust” in Fawaz’s latest claims.

Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in north London, Michael had his first success as half of the pop duo Wham! in the early ’80s. He then became one of the most successful solo artists of all time, selling more than 100 million records.
