Jonathan Bennett Loves Them Cakes

The "Cake Wars" host opens up about his sweet tooth.

When he’s not hitting on guys on VH1's Hit the Floor, Jonathan Bennett has a pretty sweet life as the host of Food Network’s Cake Wars.

For three seasons he’s watched bakers create staggering creations celebrating everything from Star Wars and The Sound of Music to Lego and Dr. Seuss.

“I’m blessed—[it’s] one of my favorite job ever, hands down,” he tells NewNowNext. "And I’m learning a lot. I never knew what fondant was—now I can taste the difference buttercream, powdered sugar, or real egg whites."

Bennett's amazed at the ingenuity and skill of the competitors, especially in one particular challenge. "They had to use ham and pickles—and they made it taste good."

But, he admits, the gig has turned him into "a cake snob."

There’s another downside to the job, too—mostly how it affects his waistline.

"All I do is eat cake and go to Orange Theory and Barry’s Bootcamp and work out. If I’m not eating cake I’m in the gym," he says. "You can tell at the end of the season, you can tell my jeans fit a little tighter."

We think you look just fine, Jonathan.

Besides his TV appearances, Bennett had a brush with internet fame last year when a video of him dancing to Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings" went viral—mainly because he fell over a railing halfway through.

The accident, which happened months before Bennett's stint on Dancing With the Stars, caused two broken ribs. (Bennett says he’s fully recovered now.)

So what the heck happened?

"Me and my roommates were like, lets make a Mother’s Day video of us doing 'Wind Beneath My Wings.’ We made it up on the spot,” he reveals. "I thought it’d be wonderful to slide down the bannister. But when you're 6’2’’ and built like a redwood, propping yourself on four inches of metal is not a good idea.”

The clip elicited tons of comments, including one from Midler herself, who tweeted "I just saw JB’s video. Id send him my new album, but I’m afraid ill kill him.”

Cake Wars airs Mondays at 8pm on Food Network
