Lady Gaga Breaks Down in Tears Singing “Shallow” at Vegas Residency

The "Enigma" debut marked the first live performance of the "A Star Is Born" song.

We're still falling.

You'll be reading a lot about Lady Gaga's yearlong Enigma Las Vegas residency, especially the anime-alien imagery and the giant robot she rides during “Scheiße,” but her final encore may be the concert's emotional highlight.

Last night's opening of Enigma at Park Theater at Park MGM marked the first live performance of "Shallow," the breakout song from the chart-topping A Star Is Born soundtrack.

"I’m so proud to be your star," Gaga told the crowd before the encore. "But the truth is you gave birth to me."

Singing "Shallow" at the piano, sans A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper, she couldn't get through the first verse without breaking down into tears, cheered on by her little monsters to continue.

The Grammy- and Golden Globe-nominated song has been officially shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination.

"We’re creating a show unlike anything I’ve done before," Gaga said of Enigma in a previous statement. "It will be a celebration of all that is unique and different within us. The challenges of bravery can be overcome with creativity and courage that is grown out of adversity, love, and music."

The Enigma setlist also includes hit singles like "Born This Way," "Applause," and "Just Dance," plus a cover of David Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans."

Adam Lambert, Katy Perry, and Regina King were among the celebrities in attendance at the opening.

Enigma runs through November 9, 2019, at Park Theater at Park MGM Las Vegas.
