Leah Remini Starring as Conservative Middle-American Lesbian Mom in Fox Comedy
Leah Remini's next show may be able to fill the conservative entertainment void left by Roseanne's abrupt cancellation.
The 48-year-old actress has been cast in an untitled comedy pilot for Fox, created by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia writer-producers Rob McElhenney and Rob Rosell, TVLine reports. McElhenney also plays gay bartender Mac on the popular comedy.
Sunny collaborators Nick Frenkel, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton will also work behind the scenes on the new project.
The series hopeful will star Remini as Jean, "a self-described patriot who loves her country and firmly believes in everyone’s right to be left alone. Though she fits the stereotype of a typical conservative, Jean leads a very progressive lifestyle and is now married to a woman, who helps Jean raise her two sons, as does the boys’ father (and Jean’s ex-husband)."
"A woman, her ex-husband, and her new wife work together to raise a family in middle America," reads the IMDb logline.
After filming is complete, the half-hour, multi-camera sitcom will be eligible for midseason placement on Fox's schedule.
A former Scientologist, Remini currently hosts the Emmy-winning A&E docu-series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.
The RuPaul's Drag Race guest judge has more free time following the recent cancellation of CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait, which reunited her with King of Queens co-star Kevin James.
