It takes a village to get a candidate elected. Just ask Brian Derrick.

A seasoned political consultant, Derrick has worked for Lambda Legal and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). Today, the New York City-based politico is a free agent, lending his expertise to candidates like fellow Logo30 honoree Marti Gould Cummings, a nonbinary activist and drag performer running for a spot on NYC's city council this year, as well as projects like Oath, a new platform designed to educate New Yorkers on how, why, and when to participate in local elections.

For Derrick, Pride is "non-negotiable." Luckily, he's able to express his Pride every day by working to get queer-identified and pro-LGBTQ+ candidates elected — and during 2020, that included the Biden-Harris presidential ticket.

"I am so excited for what comes next and the passage of the Equality Act, and to work harder for more diverse candidates, including hopefully the first openly queer president very soon," he tells Logo.
