Is RuPaul’s best squirrel friend also America’s
next reigning drag superstar?
In a new wide-ranging interview with The Guardian, Michelle Visage finally comes out… as a fierce bio queen.
The 51-year-old RuPaul’s Drag Race judge says that although she slept with both women and men during her New York club heyday, she has never identified as bisexual.
“No, when I grew up that wasn’t really a thing,” she explains. “If it was, it was gay boys who would come out as bisexual first because it was easier for them. It was just if I saw a pretty girl and I was attracted to her, why not?”
Because some online haters have questioned the former ballroom denizen and longtime ally’s rightful place within the LGBTQ community, the interviewer suggests it might be easier for her if she came out as bisexual.
“It would be easier, but I don’t feel like the easy way out is always the right way out,” she replies. “I don’t want to take anything away from somebody who’s truly living a bisexual lifestyle.”

So how does Visage identify? When the interviewer brings up bio queens, or queens assigned female at birth, the Get Off Your Ass host makes a bold declaration.
“I’m going to yank my drawers down,” she warns, pulling down her pants to show off a tattoo that reads “drag queen” at the top of her thigh. “Because that’s who I am and that’s what I identify as.”
“Ru said it best—that you’re born naked and the rest is drag,” Visage continues. “It’s true. We become somebody else when we get done. This is my shield, my superhero costume. When I put on my makeup, my drag, I feel like I can take on the world.”
