Pastor Who Said Pulse Victims "Got What They Deserved" Arrested On Child Molestation Charges

Kenneth Adkins fought against LGBT protections in Florida, claiming they'd allow predators to stalk victims in public bathrooms.

A minister who claimed the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting "got what they deserved" has been arrested on charges of child molestation.

"I don’t see none of them as victims. I see them as getting what they deserve," Pastor Kenneth Adkins of The Greater Church in Brunswick, Georgia, tweeted in the wake of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

But on Friday—Adkins, who also works as a political consultant in Jacksonville, Florida—turned himself into police after being charged with aggravated child molestation and child molestation, stemming from allegations made by a young man who was once a part of his congregation.

“We are disappointed with what appears to be a rush to judgment by law enforcement authorities in this case,” said his wife, Charlotte Stormy Adkins.

“We are confident that Kenneth Adkins will be found innocent of all charges.”

It's believe the allegations date back to 2010—a representative of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said authorities investigated suspected molestation in several locations, including at Adkins’ church, a vehicle and a victim’s home.

The supposed victim would've had to have been younger than 16 at the time for child molestation charges to be filed.

In addition to blasting the Pulse victims, Pastor Adkins fought to block anti-discrimination protections covering LGBT people in Jacksonville, Florida. His reasoning: Such a law would make it easier for sexual predators to find victims in public bathrooms.

Adkins had even planned to infiltrate a women's room to make his point, but decided against it.

Adkins has been an advocate for helping ex-convicts rebuild their lives, having spent 10 months in jail on drug charges after developing a serious cocaine addiction. But he seems to have made as many enemies as allies: In 2012, he called a Glynn County School Board member “a fool” and a “runaway slave.” (He also reportedly called a rival campaign worker a “child molester.”)

Mrs. Adkins claims her husband's accuser is "a deeply troubled young man... our thoughts and prayers remain with him even now.”
