Montreal in Winter: Drag Queen Travel Tips

For a break from this un-wintery winter season...how about a city that knows from serious snow? Montreal, a city that LOVES a festival (seriously, one whole section of town is called the festival quarter), has a whole slew of supercool upcoming events that look like a good time.

1. Snow Village

Sooo, you've always thought about sleeping in an ICE Hotel? No, you haven't, have you? (Me neither...but I always say I've done it, just like I always say I've done one of those dining in the dark restaurants. Total lie.) Anyway, you've heard about ice hotels, I'm sure. Well, surprise surprise this is a trend that continues in Canada. And I have to say Montreal's version looks a lot more appealing than I thought it would...particularly the hot tub bit. It opens January 18th, and the theme this year: NYC. Yup, they are recreating Williamsburg in ICE. (Not true.)

2. IglooFest

This is a bit misleading...there are some igloos about, but the upshot of this is an electronic music festival on the piers. And the thing that Montreal does well (which anyone who's been to Osheaga can tell you) is a music festival. The fest runs across several weekends: January 17-18-19 ▪ January 24-25-26 ▪ January 31 & February 1-2 ▪ February 7-8-9.

3. La Fête des Neiges de Montréal

This popular winter event happens over three consecutive weekends, from January 19 to February 3, and it is returning with activities like tube sliding, zip-line, dog sledding, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, boot and ice hockey, snow-scootering, skating along the river, and much more.

But what do you really want to do in Montreal? Hang with Drag Queens, of course. So here are some of our favorites from the Cabaret Mado -- Tracy Trash, Miss Butterfly, Mm. Michelle, Peggy Sue -- giving us their five things (and people) to do in Montreal.
