Patti LaBelle Calls Man Moved To Sing After Trying Her Sweet Potato Pie

The Grammy award-winning singer thanked him for his five-star review.

If Patti LaBelle ever needed a back-up career, she could certainly find one in the food industry. It's no secret that the legendary singer is also a legend in the kitchen — she went above and beyond proving it in her recent Cooking Channel special, Patti Labelle's Place.

Last week, a man named James Wright sang the praises of Patti's signature sweet potato pie (while also singing Patti's "On My Own") in a rave video review that quickly went viral, racking up more than six million views on Facebook and close to one million views on YouTube since it was posted Thursday.

"Bitch I've turned into Patti!" he screams in between lyrics. "You'll turn into Patti after eating this!"

Turns out Patti herself was one of those lucky viewers, because she called James the day after it was posted to thank him for his amazing review.

"She kept thanking me…and just kept telling me how much she loved me," he told Fox 32 Chicago, adding that he cried "like a baby" when the call came through. "She just kept telling me to be me, and she was like, 'Boy you can sing!'"
