There Was A "RuPaul's Drag Race" Joke On This Week's "Riverdale"

And a new character came out to Jughead.

Just when we thought we couldn't love Riverdale any more than we already do, the show went ahead and made a reference to RuPaul's Drag Race.

On the latest episode, "Death Proof," Archie (KJ Apa) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) went head-to-head in a Grease-esque street race to the death against the Serpents, the gang from the town's dark southside.

Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) gave her best Natalie Wood from Rebel Without A Cause impersonation, and kicked off the race with her scarf, while the rest of Archie's gang watched from the sidelines—including Riverdale's resident out high schooler, Kevin Keller, who was surprised to find himself at a drag race involving cars.

"Not the kind of drag race I ever imagined myself going to, but at least the guys are hot," Kevin said, as he ogled more than the hot rods.

We love that the Riverdale writers know that there is an overlap between their show's audience and RuPaul's Drag Race fans.

Now that you think about it, can't you totally see Kevin hosting Drag Race viewing parties at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe diner? If not, he should totally hop on that before All Stars Season 3 starts up.

Not only did the episode provide a fun RuPaul joke, but it also confirmed the bisexuality of a new character, Toni Topaz, played by Vanessa Morgan of The Shannara Chronicles.

Toni is Jughead's closest friend at Southside High and viewers are led to believe the two hooked up after Toni wakes up in Jughead's trailer wearing his clothes. It's only revealed in a later scene that it was nothing more than a "heavy groping session."

"Besides, I'm more into girls anyway," Toni reveals to Jughead at the diner.

"Roger that," he responds.

Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said that Toni's bisexuality “is something that we’re going to explore" as the season progresses. Maybe she can accompany Kevin to Riverdale's nearest gay bar?

It turns out that RuPaul's best squirrel friend, Michelle Visage, is also a fan of the show since she tweeted a pic of a Riverdale shirt from Hot Topic with the caption #SerpentForLife:

We don't know about you, but we would love to see an Archie runway challenge on the next season of Drag Race. Those queens would kill some Betty and Veronica looks.

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7: RuVealed airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Logo.
