Why RuPaul's Favorite "Drag Race" Moment Brought Him To Tears

"I had to hold back my emotions."

RuPaul has been all over the news lately with his first Emmy nomination, his recent lively endorsement of Hillary Clinton and the upcoming season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.

Last week he sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for an interview on Facebook Live and things got personal when he revealed his favorite moment from the eight seasons of Drag Race, and how it connects with the passing of his mother.

Ru reminisced about while he was performing at the National March on Washington for Gay And Lesbian Rights back in 1993 he saw a plane take off in the sky, and he knew deep down that it was his mother-who had been ill-taking off.

"From that moment on, I played Martha Wash's 'Carry On' non-stop. That's what got me through it," he said about the passing of his mother. "When that happened on the show, and Martha Wash was there, and they were lip syncing, I had to hold back my emotions. I think when you see that episode... I get very verklempt. There are many favorite moments of Drag Race, but that one in particular is always the first one that comes to mind because I think of my mother."

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 premieres Thursday, August 25 at 8/7c on Logo and VH1.
