Showtime Unveils Title, Promo Poster for New "The L Word" Revival

This year's revival of The L Word officially has a title, and it's a nod to a newer, queerer generation.

According to TVLine, the 2019 sequel to the beloved Showtime series about a group of lesbians in West Hollywood will be called The L Word: Generation Q.

The addition of "Q," of course, is a reference to the word "queer"—and a nod to the ever-shifting language LGBTQ women use to describe their sexual orientations, especially in the years after the The L Word's 2004 premiere.

The revival will include cameos from original L Word stars Jennifer Beals (Bette), Katherine Moennig (Shane), and Leisha Hailey (Alice). According to the sequel's description, the OG leading ladies will reprise their iconic characters alongside "a new generation of self-possessed LGBTQIA characters experiencing love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in Los Angeles.”

Original showrunner Ilene Chaiken (pictured above) is slated to executive-produce with showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan (The Four-Faced Liar).

In a statement, Showtime President Gary Levine praised Ryan for her vision: "Marja has brought her unique and contemporary vision to The L Word and blended it beautifully into the fabric of Ilene’s groundbreaking series. This revered show was both entertaining and impactful when it originally ran on Showtime, and we are confident that our new version will do that and more in 2019.”

Will "dyke drama" get a new moniker, too? Only time will tell.

Look out for The L Word: Generation Q on Showtime later this fall.
